GAZA STRIP: A top Hamas official disregarded US President Joe Biden’s remarks on Saturday regarding the likelihood that Israel would consent to the creation of a Palestinian state.
Hamas dismisses Biden comments: After speaking over the phone for the first time in almost a month, Biden stated on Friday that there was still a chance that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would consent to a Palestinian state, even while Israel’s conflict with Hamas in Gaza continues.
Izzat al-Rishq, a member of Hamas’s political bureau, stated in a statement that “the illusion that Biden is preaching about a state of Palestine and its characteristics is not fooling our people.”
“Biden is a full partner in the genocidal war and our people do not expect any good from him.”
Biden hinted at a two-state solution that has been advocated for decades in an effort to reduce tensions in the Middle East after the call with Netanyahu.
Two-state solutions come in several varieties. After a White House event, Biden told reporters, “There are a number of UN members that… don’t have their own militaries.”
The Israeli leader stated the previous day that he is against granting Palestinian sovereignty because the conflict in Gaza is still going strong. This was the day that Biden and Netanyahu spoke over the phone.
After the Palestinian organization’s attack on Israel on October 7, Netanyahu vowed to demolish Hamas and demilitarise Gaza. He has also grown more recalcitrant to US demands for a plan that calls for Palestinian statehood in any shape or form.
Approximately 1,140 persons, primarily civilians, lost their lives as a result of Hamas’s attack, according to an AFP count based on official numbers.
According to data from the Gaza Health Ministry, Israel has been waging a ceaseless air and ground offensive that has resulted in the deaths of at least 24,927 Palestinians, about 70% of whom were women, children, and teenagers.
