PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Apex Committee has resolved to carry out the crackdown on the illicit spectrum in a more methodical and effective manner. To achieve this aim, they have instructed the relevant federal and provincial authorities to ensure well-coordinated efforts.
KP Govt crackdown against illegal spectrum: The decision was made during the Provincial Apex Committee’s third meeting, which was chaired by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s acting chief minister, Muhammad Azam Khan, on Wednesday. Lt. Gen. Hassan Azhar Hayat, Corps Commander of Peshawar, Ahmad Rasool Bangash, interim Provincial Minister of Finance, Nadeem Aslam Chaudhry, Chief Secretary, Inspector General of Police, Akhtar Hayat Khan, Additional Chief Secretary, Home, Muhammad Abid Majeed, administrative secretaries of relevant departments, and other high-ranking members of the civil and military authorities were present at the meeting.
The forum assessed the implementation of its decisions made during the last session to limit the unlawful spectrum. They also discussed the status of the return of illegal immigrants to their countries of origin during the meeting. The meeting examined in-depth the measures implemented by different provincial and federal agencies to combat illicit acts, such as drug and alcohol trafficking, extortion, using illegal SIMS and weapons, Hawala/Hundi, falsified documentation, smuggling, and the use of NCP cars and SIMS in the province.
The event was provided with comprehensive updates by the appropriate province and federal department authorities about the accomplishments and advancements made by their respective departments in reducing the illicit spectrum. The meeting also covered issues pertaining to the registration of Madaris and the profile of non-customs-paid automobiles. The forum reaffirmed its commitment to tackling the illicit spectrum issue head-on, particularly the extortion issue. To that end, the Apex Committee decided to hold a special session solely to discuss extortion, with the goal of developing a comprehensive plan to address the issue.

The meeting also stressed the need to closely monitor the presence of drugs in educational institutions, and they resolved to initiate a crackdown on the major players involved in the production and distribution of drugs, including the Anti-Narcotics Force. They instructed the Police and Excise Department to collaborate in formulating a plan to address the drug problem.
The forum offered fateha for the martyrs who lost their lives during the recent terrorist actions, expressed sympathy to the bereaved families, and paid heartfelt homage to the sacrifices made by security forces and law enforcement agencies in the fight against terrorism.
Speaking on this occasion, the Chief Minister said that the government and people of our country hold the officers and Jawans of security forces and LEAs in the highest regard for the extraordinary sacrifices they have made for this country. Azam Khan emphasized the necessity of halting any unlawful acts that might contribute to the promotion of terrorism. He asserted that the government, security forces, and the entire country remain dedicated to combating the threat of terrorism.
To address unlawful spectrum in the desired manner, the CM instructed the high-ups of all relevant bodies to ensure the implementation of decisions made by the Apex Committee in both letter and spirit and to enhance the coordination mechanism among all parties.
