A high-level inquiry committee investigating the wheat import scandal has called upon former Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar and former Secretary of Food Muhammad Mahmood to summoned before it.
As per the details, the inquiry committee, established by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, has commenced its operations. Secretary Cabinet Kamran Ali chaired the inaugural meeting of the high-level committee. On its first day, the committee examined a previous inquiry report. Directed by Secretary Cabinet Kamran Ali, former Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar and ex-Secretary of Food Muhammad Mahmood were summoned to appear before it on Sunday. Insider sources indicate that the committee will convene again on Sunday and submit its report to the prime minister on Monday. During the initial six-hour meeting, the committee interrogated two former Secretaries of Food Security, Muhammad Mehmood and Muhammad Asif.
Mohsin Naqvi, Shamshad Akhtar, Gohar Ejaz next in line
Sources familiar with the matter stated that the committee plans to question former Finance Minister Shamshad Akhtar, ex-interim Minister for Commerce and Trade Gohar Ejaz, and Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi during Sunday’s meeting. Committee members believe that caretaker federal cabinet members played a significant role in the wheat import, and the inquiry report would be inadequate without their interrogation. The committee has already concluded its investigation with Customs, Karachi Port, and FBR officials.
