After Bangladesh secured a six-wicket victory against Pakistan in the second Test, completing a 2-0 series sweep in Rawalpindi on Tuesday, cricket experts weighed in on the factors behind Pakistan’s disappointing performance.
The visitors not only claimed their first-ever Test win against Pakistan by 10 wickets in the opening match but also convincingly won the second game to seal the series.
Senior sports journalist Abdul Majid Bhatti called for accountability, emphasizing that all players should be evaluated equally. He pointed out that some players are given multiple opportunities despite poor performances, while others are judged after just a few games.
Highlighting Bangladesh’s remarkable achievement, Bhatti noted that it was unprecedented for a team to lose six players for less than 30 runs and still win the match.
Sports analyst Syed Yahya Hussaini criticized the Pakistani players for focusing too much on individual achievements. He attributed the team’s consistent failures in Test cricket over the past three to four years to this mentality. Hussaini also urged that skipper Shan Masood be given more time to lead the team effectively.
Pakistani cricketer Ahmed Shehzad expressed doubts about Masood’s suitability for the Test format, citing his lackluster performance of around 350 runs in the last four years. Shehzad argued that Masood might not have been part of the team if he weren’t the captain. He also recommended that Masood select players of his choice, including those from domestic cricket, and take full responsibility for the results.
Sports columnist Osman Samiuddin praised Bangladesh’s win, calling it one of the “greatest anywhere.” He described the 10-wicket victory after facing a 448-6 declared innings and the six-wicket win after being 26-6 as among the most remarkable series wins in cricket history.
