“Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan Featured on Time Magazine Cover: ‘The Incredible Story of Imran Khan'”
Imran Khan, the former prime minister of Pakistan, was featured on the cover of Time Magazine Cover with the caption “The Incredible Story of Imran Khan.”
PTI politicians took notice of the article, including former information minister Fawad Chaudhry, who tweeted about the cover.
The Political Career of Imran Khan
It provides a fair examination of Imran Khan’s political career, including praise, criticism, and forecasts for Pakistan’s future, similar to many Western magazine pieces. Time Magazine interviewed Khan on Zoom and used quotes from the conversation to highlight his successes, flaws, and future potential.
The political trajectory of Imran Khan has been remarkable, characterised by tenacity, fortitude, and controversy. Imran Khan, a former cricketing prodigy who became a politician, was born on October 5, 1952. He led Pakistan as its 22nd prime minister from August 2018 until April 2022.
During Khan’s time as prime minister, there were both accomplishments and setbacks. He established a number of social welfare programmes to reduce poverty and enhance healthcare and education. Yet, his government also came under fire for mismanaging the economy, having high inflation, and mounting debt.
In order to navigate a complicated relationship with the United States, notably in the Afghan peace process and the role of the Taliban, Khan’s foreign policy strategy includes efforts to forge closer connections with China and Russia while navigating the United States.
Fans of PTI Respond to Time’s Article
Several of Khan’s fans, however, condemned the piece and its author, Charles Campbell, for endorsing a limited, Western viewpoint on the Muslim world. On Twitter, PTI supporters decried the article as “pathetic Orientalism.”
Many of Khan’s fans, however, felt that the piece “obscured facts and concealed disdain under a shroud of objectivity.” Opponents of the PTI, on the other hand, stressed the article’s claim that Khan’s activities are to blame for Pakistan’s economic woes.
Thousands of PTI supporters engaged with the Time piece online as it gathered traction. Notwithstanding this criticism, Khan’s conviction that elections are essential to ending Pakistan’s political unrest and kicking off its economic recovery was emphasised in the piece. It also pointed out that the nation’s meagre foreign reserves suggest that elections cannot resolve the crisis on their own.
The piece sparked discussions about Pakistan’s political future soon before the Supreme Court rejected an order from the Election Commission to delay elections in Punjab and KP.
The focus of the conversations was on carrying out the Supreme Court’s ruling, the army’s function, and prospective US assistance. In the article’s conclusion, the author discussed how Khan disagreed with the Biden administration. Khan had incorrectly blamed the US for overthrowing his government, supported the Taliban, and worked to develop deeper ties with China and Russia.
