The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will hire Yasir Arafat, a former cricketer, to serve as the team’s bowling and assistant coach.
Sources say that when Mickey Arthur is absent, Arafat will take over as head coach and Arthur is expected to become the director of the team.
Note that Arthur won’t always travel with the Pakistan team because he will continue to work full-time for English county team Derbyshire.
In addition, Arthur previously led the Pakistan team for three years after taking over in 2016.
However, following the team’s fifth-place finish in the 2019 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, the PCB made the decision not to renew the contracts of Arthur and his support staff.
The chairman of the PCB Management Committee, Najam Sethi, thinks Arthur is qualified to lead the Pakistan team and select the coaching staff.
Arthur proposed Arafat as his assistant coach after receiving permission to choose his coaching staff.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) recently awarded Arafat his level four expert coach degree.
Over the course of his brief career, Arafat represented Pakistan in three Tests, 11 ODIs, and 13 T20Is.
In Karachi, Pakistan, in 2000, the 40-year-old made his international debut during a Test match against Sri Lanka.
In all forms of cricket, Arafat amassed more than 1400 wickets and over 11,000 runs as a player.
He has worked as a coach all around the world, including for Surrey in County Cricket and the Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League.
