Defence Minister Khawaja Asif announced following the cabinet meeting that a decision would be made by Thursday. According to calculations, Rs56 billion could be saved if 20% of the government employees alternated working from home.
Additionally, he stated that wedding venues would only be open until 10 p.m., while markets, motels, and restaurants would close at 8 p.m. He did, however, mention that there might be some room for eateries to extend their closing times by an hour.
The minister added that energy-saving fans and lamps would soon be available on the market, contributing to a savings of Rs38 billion.
“If street lights were to be utilised instead, we could save Rs4 billion.”
Asif announced that media campaign would be launched by the Ministry of Information to raise awareness of these fresh regulations.
The minister stated, “In the coming days, we will be approaching all the provinces with this national project. And then on Thursday, the conservation strategy will receive its final approval.”
The Ministry of Energy has created a strategy for energy saving that will save more than Rs250 billion with actions that must be approved by the national and provincial governments, according to a previous Business Recorder report.
