Women’s Exhibition Match: In the first Women’s League preseason match on Wednesday, Super Women defeated Amazons by an eight-wicket margin owing to captain Nida Dar’s all-around performance and Laura Wolvaardt’s undefeated 53.
While setting a solid 133-run goal for Super Women, Aliya Riaz scored a responsible knock of 38 to keep the Amazons in the game.
Nida Dar led the charge for her team with outstanding bowling statistics of 3/25 in her three overs as Bismah Maroof-led Amazons, who chose to bat first, managed 132/9 in the 20 overs.
Tammy Beaumont and Danni Wyatt, two foreign opening pairs, gave the Amazons a brisk 46 runs before Syeda Masooma Zehra made the breakthrough in the last over of the powerplay. Beaumont of England was instructed to leave after hitting 24 with the assistance of four boundaries.
Following suit, Wyatt conceded her wicket to Super Women’s captain Dar at 22 after three balls. Umme Hani cheaply dismissed the captain of the Amazons, Bismah, in the seventh over.
After he dismissed England’s Maia Bouchier and Australia’s Tess Flintoff on 18 and 2, respectively, Tuba Hasan made her presence known in the middle overs.
When wickets continued to fall from the other end, Aliya held the fort for her team and reached 38 off 35 balls. She exited the crease in the 18th over after steering her team to 120.
In order to hold the Amazons in check, Dar made back-to-back strikes in the 19th over, removing Fatima Sana (13) and Nashra Sandhu.
