Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina, a Republican, has formally withdrew from the US presidential contest. Scott acknowledged that Donald Trump was leading in the primary polls and acknowledged that winning the Republican nominee was unlikely.
Tim Scott Drops Out Presidential Race: On Fox News, he made his announcement and recognised the message of the people, characterising them as saying, “Not now, Tim.” The Guardian reports that this resignation changes the campaign to confront front-runner Donald Trump marginally.
The lone Black Republican senator running for president, Scott, had high hopes for the United States when he announced his candidature six months ago. He frequently used his own account of growing up with just one mother to extol the virtues of America and attack Joe Biden and the Democratic Party for their policies.
To support his candidature, Scott has, however, lately taken a more sombre stance and made some contentious statements concerning historical figures and Black Americans. Significant opposition resulted from his remarks about slavery, President Lyndon Johnson’s Great Society initiative, and Biden’s response to the Hamas assault.
Scott’s change to harsher language did not help him significantly in national primary surveys. His campaign came to an end when he realised there was no way he could win the Republican nomination with the consistently low support. Further, His withdrawal from the race brings an end to a campaign that was unable to establish traction in a crowded and fiercely contested field.
