On Thursday, President Vladimir Putin stated that Russia wanted to put an end to the conflict in Ukraine and that a diplomatic solution was a must.
A day after US President Joe Biden welcomed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy to the White House and assured him of the US’s ongoing, unflinching support, Putin made the remarks.
We want to put an end to this war, not restart the armed fight, according to Putin. “We will work to put an end to this, and obviously the sooner the better.”
Putin has “absolutely none indication” that he’s eager to negotiate an end to the conflict, according to White House spokesperson John Kirby. The conflict started on February 24 when Moscow launched troops into Ukraine.
Kirby told reporters in an online briefing, “Quite the reverse. Putin is acting in a way that “betrays a man who wants to continue inflicting bloodshed on the Ukrainian people” and “intensify the war,” according to the report.
Kirby reaffirmed that while Biden was willing to speak with Putin, it would only be after the Russian president “showed a sincerity about dialogue” and after conversations with the Ukraine and US partners.
Russia
Although Russia has insisted repeatedly that it is open to talks, Ukraine and its supporters believe that this is merely a ruse to buy time following a string of Russian setbacks and retreats that have tipped the balance of the 10-month conflict in Kyiv’s favour.
The increase of hostilities causes needless losses, as I have frequently stated, Putin told reporters.
He continued, “Every military confrontation ends in some fashion with negotiations on the diplomatic road. “Any parties engaged in a fight eventually meet and come to a compromise. The sooner this understanding sinks in for people who disagree with us, the better. We’ve never given up trying.”
Russia claims that Ukraine is the one who won’t communicate. Kiev demands that Russia stop all of its actions and relinquish all of the area it has taken.
Putin also downplayed the importance of the Patriot air defence system that Biden promised to give Zelenskiy, claiming that Russia will figure out a way to thwart it.
He claimed it was “very ancient” and didn’t function like the S-300 system used by Russia. He boasted that Russia would “crack” the Patriots and remarked that an antidote would always be discovered.
“Thus, people who do it are wasting their time. Simply said, it only makes the conflict last longer.”
Putin added that the Russian economy would not be harmed by a price ceiling put on Russian oil by Western nations in an effort to reduce its ability to finance the conflict. He declared that he will issue a decree early the next week outlining Russia’s response.
