ISLAMABAD: A special court has once more indicted PTI vice-chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi and former prime minister Imran Khan in the cypher case.
PTI Chairman and Qureshi indicted: The case against Imran and Qureshi was handled by Special Court Judge Abual Hasnat Zulqarnain. The PTI leaders faced an indictment for the second time.
Both PTI leaders entered not guilty pleas and said the indictment was “fabricated” during the hearing. In addition, they declared that the indictment was “illegal” and threatened to contest it in court.
The court was told by prosecutor Rizwan Abbasi that witness statements will be recorded on Thursday.
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) was then notified by the court, and the hearing was postponed until tomorrow, December 14.
Case of the cypher
Under the Official Secrets Act, the first information report (FIR) was filed on August 15. It was noted on the Home Secretary’s complaint.
The report included nominations for former prime minister Imran Khan, former foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, former principal secretary Azam Khan, and former planning minister Asad Umar.
The previous foreign minister and prime minister, according to the FIR, misrepresented the diplomatic cipher’s facts. It further stated, “A plot was initiated to utilise the cipher’s contents for evil intent.” It went on to say that the state’s interests were in jeopardy due to the former premier and senior diplomat.
