Both parties have until Tuesday night (tonight) to deliberate and choose a name.
The PM Office said in a statement on Tuesday that PM Shehbaz had spoken on the phone with former president Asif Ali Zardari, PML-Q leader Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, and PDM leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman.
PM meeting with PDM officials: According to the statement, “The Prime Minister conducted consultation with the three leaders on the selection of the caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab.”
Together with the heads of the coalition parties, PM Shehbzad also discussed the nation’s political condition.
PM Shehbaz and senior party members met the day before to choose the caretaker Punjab chief minister nominee.
The senior brass of the PML-N gathered at the prime minister’s Model Town mansion in Lahore under the leadership of party leader Nawaz Sharif, who attended via video link from London.
A decision was made at the meeting to take part in the selection process for the caretaker chief minister and to develop the party’s strategy, according to insiders, who also stated that the meeting covered a range of possible candidates for the position.
But until the party consults its allies, it has opted to withhold the individuals that have made the shortlist.
