Babar receive Sitara-e-Imtiaz: The nation’s highest civil honour has been given to Pakistani captain Babar Azam for his outstanding services to the nation’s cricket.
The right-handed batsman, who is only 28 years old, is the youngest cricketer to get the Sitara-e-Imtiaz award for great performance in the sport.
The flamboyant batter received the civil award from Punjab Governor Baligh Ur Rehman during an investiture ceremony held at the Governor House as part of Pakistan Day celebrations.
The cricketer Babar, dubbed the “cover drive king,” is presently taking a break from playing to attend the ceremony because he won’t be playing in the series against Afghanistan. He became recognised as a player to aspire to during his career.
Babar made significant contributions to Pakistani cricket during his brief tenure as captain of the team in both the ICC World T20 2022 final and the T20 World Cup semifinal. In 2015, he made his debut in international cricket and went on to win numerous awards. Even at the international level, the top player achieved a number of achievements.
In 47 Test matches, he earned 3,696 runs at an average of 48.63 and 4,813 runs at an average of 59.41 in 95 One Day Internationals. Babar is the recipient of numerous honours for his distinctive style in the smallest format.
For the uninitiated, former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed previously held the record for receiving the Sitara-e-Imtiaz at a young age. The coveted award has also been given to Misbah-ul-Haq, Younis Khan, Shahid Afridi, Saeed Ajmal, and Javed Miandad for their contributions.
