ISLAMABAD: Iran and Pakistan have decided to reestablish diplomatic relations and return ambassadors to their positions.
Pakistan and Iran restore diplomatic ties: During a phone call, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani addressed the ambassadors’ return to their respective capitals.
The foreign ministers emphasised bilateral cooperation and brotherly connections, according to the foreign office in Islamabad.
The acting foreign minister of Pakistan encouraged that cooperation start with respect for national sovereignty and unity.
The parties also decided to reduce hostilities.
Syed Rasul Moosvi, Iran’s ambassador, has praised communication between the two nations’ foreign ministries.
Following drone and missile strikes in each other’s territory, the foreign ministers of the two nations held a discussion.
Since the conflict between Israel and Hamas broke out on October 7, the tit-for-tat strikes by the two nations are the most high-profile cross-border incursions in recent memory, according to Reuters. This has caused concern about potential wider instability in the region.
Anwaar ul Haq Kakar, the acting prime minister, called a meeting of the National Security Council instead of continuing his travel to the World Economic Forum in Davos.
The summit decided that Pakistan “will respond with full might of the state” to any attempts to breach its territory.
In order to resolve security concerns, it recommended Iran to use the current channels of contact.
