NATO and the EU promised on Tuesday to step up collaboration between Europe and the US-led alliance while strengthening their support for Ukraine in the battle against the Russian incursion.
“We need to keep fortifying the alliance between NATO and the European Union. Following the signing of a joint statement with top EU officials, NATO leader Jens Stoltenberg remarked, “And we must further enhance our support for Ukraine.
NATO and the EU, which both have 21 members, have provided Kyiv with billions of euros’ worth of armaments to assist it to repel the armies of Moscow.
In addition to providing armored fighting vehicles, the United States, Germany, and France have recently said they will also send large modern tanks to Ukraine.
In response to the danger from Russia, NATO and the EU are considering a “next level” alliance.
Ursula von der Leyen, president of the European Commission, said, “I believe that Ukraine should acquire all the essential military weaponry they need and can handle to defend the nation.”
This includes cutting-edge air defense systems, but it also includes other forms of cutting-edge military hardware, if necessary, to safeguard Ukraine.
The Ukrainian defense minister will meet with Kyiv’s Western backers the next week “to determine precisely what types of weapons are needed and how partners might provide such weapons,” according to Stoltenberg.
This involves making sure that the systems, platforms, and weapons we have previously delivered are functioning properly as well as introducing more systems, platforms, and weapons, he said.
People have requested the EU and NATO to collaborate more closely to defend the continent because of Moscow’s onslaught on Ukraine.
Despite efforts by the EU to increase its role in defense, the two organizations agreed that NATO, supported by the military strength of the United States, remains the cornerstone for Europe’s security.
According to our proclamation, NATO continues to be the cornerstone of collective defense and a necessity for the security of the Euro-Atlantic region, Stoltenberg added.
It also recognizes the importance of a stronger European defense that enhances our security and is compatible with and complementary to NATO.
