Mickey Arthur, a veteran in South African cricket who led Pakistan from 2016 to 2019, has accepted a job offer. He will lead the team once more. And he will start in a few days, according to individuals with knowledge of the situation.
Najam Sethi, the chair of the management committee for the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), presented the offer to Arthur. According to sources, Mickey Arthur will join the team prior to the eighth session of the Pakistan Super League. And he will assume his position in the new PCB structure.
It should be mentioned that Arthur served as the head coach when the Men in Green won the Champions Trophy in 2017.
The current PCB management is restructuring the organisation and has fired the selection committee, which was headed by Mohammad Wasim. It has also apparently been decided not to renew contracts of head coach Saqlain Mushtaq and bowling coach Shaun Tait.
Game-focused, Babar Azam
Babar Azam, the captain, said they are focused on their game as he addressed the media prior to the first Test against New Zealand on Sunday.
When asked if his team is in the right frame of mind to win the series against New Zealand in light of recent events, including the PCB and selection committee changing leadership and the nation losing its last four Test matches in a row, Babar responded, “The way things are going and in the last few days changes have come, I think as a professional you are to face such things.”
“But it’s up to us to deliver and put up our best effort. Look, these things have already happened, so our entire attention is on the present, on how to win a game. How to start this series well. And how to perform well in all three areas “said he.
When asked if the selectors, who had added three additional players to the squad, consulted him, Babar responded that they had.
“Yes, it was discussed with me, and we argued how to move forward given their unique attitude. I contributed, and we did what we thought was best, he added.
