Meta restores Trump’s Facebook: Following a two-year suspension following the deadly Capitol Hill riot on January 6, 2021, Meta Platforms Inc. has reinstated former US President Donald Trump‘s access to Facebook and Instagram, Meta spokesperson Andy Stone said on Thursday.
In January, Meta announced that it would end Trump’s suspension “in the next weeks” and impose stricter sanctions, including a suspension of one to two years, should the former president break its content guidelines once more.
With his re-election bid in 2024, Trump can now employ important venues for voter outreach and political financing. As of January, he has 34 million Facebook fans and 23 million Instagram followers.
Elon Musk, the new CEO of Twitter, also restored Trump’s account in November, though he hasn’t yet published anything there. Trump’s social media accounts that have been restored will be held to the Community Standards of Meta. Repeated crimes will result in punishment. Meta’s Community Standards state that if future posts violate content guidelines, they will be deleted. The infraction could result in a suspension for Donald Trump for one month to two years. The duration of the suspension will depend on the severity of the breach.
