McCullum wants overthrow his own NZ: Brendon McCullum, a former captain of the Black Caps, believes that as long as England and New Zealand put up a thrilling match, passionate cricket fans would overlook his decision to serve as England’s coach.
“Wearing England’s uniform in NZ feels strange,” he said in Hamilton on Thursday. “But it’s good to be here.”
“We’re looking forward to the challenge that New Zealand will present to us.”
In 101 Test matches for New Zealand, the 41-year-old retired from Test cricket in 2016, having amassed approximately 6,500 runs, including 12 centuries.
McCullum, who was born in Dunedin at the southern tip of New Zealand’s South Island, has had a fantastic run since taking over as England coach in May.
He played a key role in Pakistan winning all three of its Test matches and in the home series victory against South Africa.
A notable Test victory over India at Edgbaston in July of last year, as well as a 3-0 series victory over New Zealand on English soil in June, were also achieved by England.
“Undoubtedly, it’s been off to a good start. The outcomes are excellent “said McCullum.
England’s head coach will make his maiden trip to New Zealand, where he will lead two Test matches against the Black Caps. The first match will take place at Mount Maunganui on Thursday and the second in Wellington the following week.
The Kiwi spectators are not going to be unfriendly to McCullum, who used to be one of the most entertaining players in the game.
“I believe everything should be fine. People are patriotic, of course.
“Even when your team loses, you still feel like you had a fantastic day out when you leave.
“Hopefully, throughout this series, that will be the case.”
“New Zealand Names Tim Southee as Captain for England Series
After Kane Williamson resigned as captain, Tim Southee will lead New Zealand against England in his maiden home series.
Williamson and England captain Ben Stokes will square off in a highly anticipated matchup between two of the best batsmen in the game.
As “the kind of guy who writes his own screenplays and achieves some really amazing things,” McCullum defined Stokes.
Additionally, The Black Caps played Pakistan in two Test matches in January and only secured one victory in six games against India in limited-overs cricket.
McCullum, who played with Southee for the Black Caps, had nothing but praise for him.
However, Tim will be as inventive as he always is in these circumstances, and we know that New Zealand will be extremely good. I’m interested to see how we react to that.
