Khudee, Pakistan’s first café run entirely by differently-abled staff, has opened in Karachi, representing a significant stride towards empowerment and setting a benchmark for workforce inclusivity.
On Saturday, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah inaugurated the unique café, which was created and launched by the Karachi Vocational Training Centre (KVTC), according to an official statement.
Addressing the inauguration, the CM highlighted KVTC’s longstanding commitment to empowering the differently-abled community through vocational training programmes. He noted that initiatives like these, particularly in culinary arts, equip students with practical skills to meet the demands of professional environments.
Flanked by provincial ministers Saeed Ghani and Zulfiqar Shah, the CM lauded the dedication of the KVTC team, stating their efforts in helping students realize their potential were commendable. Shah emphasized that the students were not only learning but thriving, making remarkable progress by overcoming barriers with the proper guidance and opportunities.
The launch of Khudee — Bakery & Café, he said, is a testament to this progress. More than just a café, it stands as a milestone and an example of what can be accomplished when individuals are empowered to grow.
“This initiative offers students a real-world professional environment to refine their skills and advance their careers while experiencing personal growth beyond vocational training,” he added.
The CM expressed his pride in being part of a project that uplifts individuals, providing them with dignity through work and opportunity. He praised Khudee as a brilliant societal example, demonstrating that inclusion and empowerment are achievable.
Shah concluded with hopes that the café’s opening would inspire others to support the differently-abled community and create platforms for them to succeed.
