A campaign called “Jail Bharo Tehreek for Haqeeqi Azadi” by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is “against the economic catastrophe brought on by cabal of crooks who have money laundered billions in looted cash,” according to former prime minister Imran Khan and PTI Chairman Imran Khan on Wednesday.
On Wednesday, PTI supporters will walk to the streets of Lahore to launch the “Jail Bharo Tehreek.” Outside the Punjab Assembly, 200 party members and about five PTI lawmakers and leaders would voluntarily turn themselves in to the police.
The PTI chairman described the action as a nonviolent, nonviolent protest against the violation of the nation’s constitutionally protected fundamental rights in a series of tweets.
He tweeted, “We are dealing with bogus FIRs and NAB cases, mistreatment in detention, attacks on journalists and social media persons.
He said, “This movement is against the economic collapse caused by a gang of thieves who have laundered billions of stolen cash and obtained NROs for themselves while crushing the populace, especially the poor and middle class, under the weight of soaring inflation and mounting unemployment.”
The chairman had urged people to come to the streets for “real freedom” in a video message.
Moreover, you’ll reach a liberated and joyful Pakistan thanks to this campaign. “This will only take place when the government upholds your fundamental rights,” he said.
In order to forbid any gatherings, sit-ins, and processions, the Punjab administration previously placed Section 144 on The Mall, Gulberg Main Boulevard, outside the Punjab Civil Secretariat, and its surrounding roadways.
Imran Khan declared on February 17 that he would launch a movement to demand that the coalition government call elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in retaliation for constitutional transgressions (KP).
PTI Heavyweights Could Face Detention and Potential Sit-In Protests: Movement Planned Across Major Cities in Pakistan
Omar Sarfraz Cheema, a former governor of Punjab, Waleed Iqbal, Dr. Murad Raas, Fawad Bullar, and Muhammad Khan Madni, a former minister of education in Punjab, are among the PTI heavyweights who could face detention.
However, the PTI activists will hold a sit-in if the authorities do not detain them.
The movement will continue in other significant cities after Lahore; according to the schedule, PTI activists will make arrests in Peshawar on February 23, Rawalpindi on February 24, Multan on February 25, Gujranwala on February 26, Sargodha on February 27, Sahiwal on February 28, and Faisalabad on February 29. They will announce a fresh moving timetable following this.
Fawad Chaudhry, senior vice president of the PTI, stated to the media while speaking in front of Imran’s home that the movement would start on Wednesday and that PTI political activists would turn in their arrest warrants to the police at Faisal Chowk.
He stated that he started the movement as a form of protest against the current government’s abuse of the Constitution, inflation, and economic collapse, as well as breaches of fundamental rights.
However, the interior minister, Rana Sanaullah claimed that the PTI’s arrest campaign aimed to bring about political instability and a law-and-order situation in the country. He said that they would detain “miscreants” except for “women and underprivileged employees.”
