Imran warrant converted to bailable: A municipal court in Islamabad on Friday changed the arrest warrant for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan from being non-bailable to being bailable in a case involving threats against a female judge.
Sikandar Khan, an additional district and session judge, delivered the decision during the hearing on the former premier’s appeal for a warrant review.
The PTI Chairman must also produce surety bonds totaling Rs. 20,000, according to the session judge.
While he was contesting the decision, Imran Khan had non-bailable arrest warrants issued against him until March 29.
The district and sessions court in Islamabad suspended Imran Khan’s non-bailable arrest warrant for a period of 24 hours yesterday.
Ali Bukhari and Faisal Chaudhry, attorneys representing the PTI head, appeared before the court for a review appeal hearing against a non-bailable arrest order in a case involving ‘threatening’ words made by a female judge.
When pointing out the errors in the choice to issue a non-bailable arrest warrant for his client, Chaudhry begged the Islamabad court to revoke it.
The case
On August 20, the PTI chairman condemned both the police and the judiciary for allegedly abusing Shahbaz Gill while he was in custody and stated that his party would sue Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan, the DIG, and AD&SJ Zeba Chaudhry.
He was charged with violating several provisions of the Anti-Terrorism Act and the Pakistan Criminal Code (PPC) (ATA). The Islamabad High Court (IHC) also filed a complaint against him for contempt of court.
