LAHORE: As Section 144 was implemented in the provincial capital of Lahore, senior leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), including its chairman Imran Khan, were booked on charges of “attacking police” and “using foul language” against national security agencies.
According to the first information report (FIR), which was submitted on behalf of the deputy superintendent of police Raiwand, a group of at least 300–400 people attacked state institutions with violence and profanity throughout the city.
The FIR was filed today in accordance with Sections 147, 149, 353, 186, 302, 324, 188, 427, 290, 291, and 109 of the Pakistan Criminal Code as well as Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA).
According to the FIR, the PTI employees mistreated the institutions on the orders of Hassan Niazi, Hammad Azhar, Memoodul Rasheed, Farrukh Habib, Fawad Chaudhry, and Ejaz Chaudhry, as well as former prime minister Imran Khan.
According to the report, the mob threw stones at the police and attacked them with wooden sticks, inflicting injuries on 13 police officers and six PTI employees as a result of the brutality of their own party members.
Mohsin Naqvi is dubbed “General Dyer” by PTI.
After a complaint was brought against Mohsin Naqvi in Lahore, PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry chastised the interim chief minister of Punjab.
Fawad claimed to have spent the previous two days in Islamabad working on a plea that will be considered today.
I have been accused of vandalism in Lahore, therefore that is the case. Try to determine what kind of persons General Dyer Mohsin Naqvi planted in Lahore.
Fights between PTI workers and the police
In skirmishes on Wednesday that left several people hurt on both sides, Punjab police fired tear gas shells and charged Imran Khan supporters with batons.
Conflicts broke out in Lahore prior to a scheduled rally for Amir Khan to launch his election campaign, which the government later forbade by enforcing Section 144 for a week.
Since he was dismissed in a vote of confidence in the house last year, the former premier has been calling for immediate elections. Elections will be place later this year as scheduled, according to his successor, who rejected the demand.
Khan was shot and hurt last year during one of his own campaign rallies.
According to province communications minister Amir Mir, Wednesday’s march was prohibited due to a threat to the law and order situation because there were International Women’s Day celebrations in the region. Mir also claimed that supporters of the rally fought police when they were told to disperse.
Police dispersed them with batons, water cannons, and tear gas in retaliation, according to Mir. He claimed that at least seven police officers had been hurt. He stated that twelve PTI employees had been detained.
Imran Khan’s aide Shafqat Mahmood said several of the workers were injured in the clashes, which, he termed, “fascist tactics.”
Many locations near Khan’s Lahore residence were subjected to significant teargas bombardment by the police, according to live TV footage, and several of the workers were seen bleeding.
Khan, who has been involved in several legal disputes since his resignation, is due in court on March 13 to answer allegations that from 2018 to 2022, he illegally sold state goods while in government. Following the altercations, PTI called off the gathering.
