According to News, the Islamabad High Court confirmed the death sentence imposed on Zahir Jaffer, the main suspect in the murder case of Noor Mukadam, on Monday.
The verdict, which had been reserved on December 21, 2022, was announced by a two-member panel made up of IHC Chairman Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Sardar Ijaz Ishaq Khan.
Zahir was given a 25-year prison sentence, but the IHC denied his request for an exception and twice sentenced him to death.
Mohammad Iftikhar and Mohammad Jan, two domestic helpers of Zahir, had their appeals rejected by the court as well. The trial court’s decision had been contested by the two co-accused.
A 27-year-old lady named Noor Mukadam was killed on July 20, 2021, within the confines of the Kohsar police station in the F-7/4 district of Islamabad. On the evening of July 20, Zahir was apprehended by the Islamabad police at his home, where Noor’s parents said he had slain their daughter with a sharp object and severed her skull.
A sessions court in Islamabad convicted Zahir to death on February 24, 2022, and gave his co-accused Muhammad Iftikhar and Jan Mohammad 10 years in prison.
However, all other suspects, including staff members of Therapy Works, were exonerated, including Zakir Jaffer and Asmat Adamji, Zahir Jaffer’s parents.
Muhammad Iftikhar and Jan Mohammad, the co-accused individuals who served as the watchman and gardener at Zahir’s residence, respectively, were sentenced for encouraging criminal activity. The court cleared Jamil (chef), another employee.
Father of Noor Mukadam Speaks Out After Court Ruling on Daughter’s Case
Shaukat Mukadam, Noor’s father, stated that a positive court ruling was essential shortly after the choice was made. He claimed that he had previously stated that this matter included not just his daughter but also all the daughters of Pakistan.
Shaukat stated that the court made the appropriate choice and that he was hoping for a favourable ruling. He refused to remark on the accused who were exonerated though.
According to Noor’s father, he hasn’t been contacted about a reconciliation and even if he is now, he won’t accept.
In response to a query about public trials and societal support, he asserted that everyone was on their side and that his family didn’t need to exert any effort to draw attention to Noor’s case.
After the verdict, Zahir went before the IHC in March 2022 to appeal the death penalty.
