Netflix has finally released information on how it will stop password sharing by tracking user locations after stating last year that account sharing will no longer be feasible in the coming months.
Netflix says that people who live in separate homes need to use their own accounts, as gadgets found in other homes may be restricted from accessing Netflix.
To determine whether a device is logged in on a device other than the primary location, the streaming platform plans to use data including IP address, device IDs, and account activity.
Netflix will require a temporary code that grants access to that area for seven days whenever a new device enters the account from a different location. But, if the primary device is linked to the WiFi at the primary location once every 31 days, it won’t cause any issues while traveling.
The website explains that if you are away from your primary location for an extended period, your device may be restricted from watching Netflix. To continue watching, you can ask for a short access code.”
To fight the stop password-sharing problem, Netflix now unveiled “Profile Transfer,” which allows users to move their personal Netflix profile from someone else’s account to a new one while transferring all of their history, suggestions, and settings.
