Hashim Amla, the standout batsman for South Africa, announced his retirement from professional cricket on Wednesday.
39-year-old Amla has played for South Africa in 124 Tests, 181 ODIs, and 44 T20Is throughout the course of his 20 years on the field.
The cricket player informed Surrey County Cricket Club that he would not be coming back to assist the team in retaining the County Championship title that it won in 2022, Amla’s final season, as promised.
The team revealed Alma’s plans to retire on Twitter, writing: “Hashim Amla declares retirement from all forms of cricket. The storied South African batter pronounced the end of his playing days. Thank you so much for everything, Hash, from everyone at Surrey.
A few hours later, the club issued an update on the situation along with a message of farewell from the cricket expert.
“I have wonderful recollections of the Oval ground, and to finally leave it as a player fills me with profound gratitude for what has been,” the player said. Lifetime-lasting memories. I’m grateful, Hash.
One of the best batters of the present time is a right-handed batter. Over the course of a career spanning more than two decades, he scored 34,104 runs in all formats.
Amla has also set a number of records for his nation.
When he hit 311 runs against England at the Oval in 2012, he became the first Proteas player to ever record a triple century at the plate.
“Amla’s Farewell: Praise and Regret from Surrey County Club”
Amla’s goodbye was noted on the Surrey club’s official website.
Thank you so much for your support, Alec Stewart and the entire Surrey staff, players, and Members. Any international player would feel honoured to be associated with the Surrey ship because of how professionally it is conducted. I wish them well and many more victories.
Alec Stewart, an ambassador for the Surrey County Club, responded by praising Amla and wishing him luck in his future endeavors
He continued by saying that Hashim’s retirement was regrettable for everyone in Surrey. Stewart remarked, “He [Amla] will quite well go down as a great of the game.”
Hashim is a nice person as well as a fantastic cricket player. He has been a fantastic source of information for the team to use both on and off the field.
He is held up as an example to all young players of what a true professional looks like, and I can’t thank him enough for what he has done for Surrey, the coach stated.
