Pakistan’s Foreign Minister updates OIC Contact Group on the situation in Indian-occupied Kashmir.
ISLAMABAD: On Friday, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari informs the Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s (OIC) Contact Group on the humanitarian and human rights situation in the illegally occupied Kashmir by India (IIOJK).
The minister was attending the OIC Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir meeting that was taking place in Nouakchott, Mauritania, concurrently with the 49th OIC Council of Foreign Ministers conference.
Meanwhile, OIC Secretary General Hissein Brahim Taha (IPHRC) presided over the meeting where the genuine representative of Kashmiris, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, Niger, and Azerbaijan from the Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission (IPHRC) were present.
He claimed that India’s illegal and unilateral acts on August 5, 2019, along with the attempts to change the demographics of the occupied area that followed, have worsened the situation in IIOJK. By awarding millions of bogus domiciles to non-Kashmiris and creating rules that allow non-residents to buy and possess land in IIOJK, India was seeking to make Kashmiris into a disempowered minority in their own land. These actions were blatantly against international law, specifically the Fourth Geneva Convention, which forbade such actions by an occupying state.
IIOJK Situation Alarms OIC Contact Group, Demands India Respect Human Rights
The Contact Group voiced alarm at the situation in the IIOJK and approved a Joint Communique confirming OIC’s position on the Jammu and Kashmir conflict and reiterating its emphatic rejection of India’s unilateral and unlawful actions of 5 August 2019.
Furthermore, It requested the OIC Secretary General and the Member States to raise their voices for the just cause of Kashmir at the international fora and hold India accountable for its mistreatment of the Kashmiri people. Moreover, The Contact Group demanded that India immediately stop violating human rights in IIOJK and take action to settle the Jammu and Kashmir conflict in conformity with pertinent UNSC resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
