Fawad Chaudhry, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was arrested on Wednesday morning at his residence immediately after openly denouncing the government for attempting to imprison party chairman Imran Khan.
Police in Islamabad confirmed the arrest. Last night, a case against Chaudhary was started at the Kohsar police station in Islamabad. This was based on a complaint made by the Secretary of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), Omer Hamid Khan. The complaint alleged that Chaudhary had made threatening statements against the ECP and its members. He was the subject of a first information report (FIR) for using abusive language toward the ECP and its participants.
Someone has accused the PTI politician of breaking sections 506 of the Criminal Intimidation Act, 505 of the Statements Contributing to Public Mischief Act, and 153-A of the Pakistan Penal Code (sedition)
“Fawad Chaudhary Arrested for Threatening ECP Members and Their Families”
In his speech outside Imran Khan’s home in Lahore, Fawad warned the ECP, its members, and their families, according to the FIR.
The FIR states that Chaudhary asserted that he had reduced the electoral commission to the status of a “Munshi [clerk].”
Fawad claims that he will pursue and punish people who support the interim administration. He also said that he will track down and bring home those in power.
A nightlong mobilization of PTI members raced to the residence of the party’s head Imran Khan to secure his safety. This resulted in the arrest of Fawad Chaudhry.
“The imported government has gone mad,” stated Habib in a tweet. On social media, the PTI leader also posted videos of the cops removing Fawad.
Officials in the Islamabad police department arrested the PTI leader in Lahore at his residence close to Thokar Niyaz Baig and will bring him to the federal capital, according to the sources.
Several party officials criticised Fawad Chaudhry’s incarceration. Ali Haider Zaidi, the president of the PTI Sindh, slammed the government for the arrest.
