Imran Khan, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, victory seven National Assembly by-elections held in October, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announce on Thursday.
“A five-member ECP bench led by Chief Election Commissioner Sikander Sultan Raja made and announced the choice.” On December 20 of last year, the bench had placed the decision on hold.
The PTI chairman had provided the necessary information, according to the ECP’s ruling, clearing the door for the issue of the notification of his victory.
The former prime minister ran in by-elections in October and won on six of them: NA-22, NA-24, NA-31, NA-108, NA-118, NA-239, and NA-45. Nine PTI MNAs resigned, submitting their resignations collectively per party protocol, and the NA speaker accepted their resignations, freeing up these seats.
The ECP chose to disqualify Imran Khan from NA in the Toshakhana reference, a decision that drew strong criticism from both the public and political circles. As a result, the ECP withheld notice of his victory in all six NA seats.
