ISLAMABAD: On Thursday, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) held a consultative meeting with representatives of the political parties to talk about the draught code of conduct for the upcoming general elections.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja presided over the meeting that took place in the Election Commission Secretariat in the nation’s capital.
ECP and parties talk: In the session, the political party representatives presented their ideas and provided input on the draught code of conduct.
The CEC assured them that he would consider their suggestions.
In the meantime, by the provisions of Section 216 of the Elections Act of 2017, the elections supervising body requested applications from the political parties for the allocation of election emblems.
The ECP issued a notification instructing political parties to submit fully signed applications by their appropriate party leader on or before February 21.
The announcement invited political parties to receive one of the symbols listed under Rule 162 of the Election Rules, 2017, if they have fulfilled the requirements of the Allocation of Election Symbols of the Election Act, 2017, and the Election Rules, 2017.
The political party must submit an application that includes all essential information such as the list of preferred symbols in order, symbols granted to the party in the latest general election, the head office address of the party, and any other necessary details or information from the party.
Section 215 of the Election Act, 2017 requires the evaluation of each political party’s eligibility upon receiving their applications.
However, Fax requests or applications that are not full won’t be taken into consideration.
