ISLAMABAD: On Friday, an accountability court in Islamabad directed the government to release the properties of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif in the Toshakhana reference case.
Court order unfreeze Nawaz Sharif’s assets: Upon the PML-N supremo’s request to unfreeze his properties, which the Punjabi provincial government had taken possession of after labeling him a proclaimed offender in the Toshakhana case, Judge Mohammad Bashir issued the aforementioned ruling.
In the Toshakhana reference, the accountability court in Islamabad issued an order in 2020 for the forfeiture of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s assets and properties.
The accountability court declared former prime minister Nawaz Sharif a “proclaimed offender” in the Toshakhana reference and issued a permanent arrest warrant for his continuous non-appearance.
Judge Asghar Ali of the accountability court issued the orders to seize Nawaz Sharif’s possessions, including his land, expensive cars, and accounts in domestic and foreign banks.
Additionally, the court took possession of Nawaz’s residence in Murree, along with 1,650 agricultural canals in Lahore and 102 canals in Sheikhupura.
The research also revealed that the former PM was the owner of three cars: two Mercedes and one Land Cruiser.
The accountability court granted bail to former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Nawaz in the Toshakhana case last month.
Days before arriving in Pakistan, on October 19, the former prime minister, who had served as prime minister three times before, turned himself in to Judge Muhammad Bashir’s court in the Toshakhana case. His arrest warrant had been suspended.
