Belgium Government Bans TikTok on Work Phones Citing National Security Concerns
Belgium bans TikTok: On Friday, Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo declared that the federal government employees of Belgium can no longer use the Chinese-owned video app TikTok on their work phones.
TikTok, which is owned by the Chinese company ByteDance, raised concerns among the Belgian national security council due to the collection of massive amounts of data and the obligation to work with Chinese intelligence services. De Croo made this claim.
The prime minister issued a statement that read, “It is the reality.
Additionally, “As a result, it makes sense to prohibit using TikTok on government-issued phones. Our information’s security must prevail.
Due to rising worries about the company and whether China’s government could use TikTok to collect user data or further its interests, the European Commission and the European Parliament last month banned the app from staff phones.
Beijing has consistently refuted any such ambitions.
However, De Croo urged other regional governments to adopt the same guidelines after the Flemish regional government of Belgium declared on Thursday that it will ban access to TikTok on the phones of its employees.
