Australia beat India: Australia won by nine wickets on Friday, just their second Test victory in India since 2004, thanks in large part to the composure of Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne on a field that was violently changing.
The series is presently 2-1 in favour of the hosts with one game left after Australia was destroyed in the first two Tests in just three days.
Usman Khawaja, the day’s opener, was bowled out by the second delivery, leaving Labuschagne on 28 and Head on 49 at the end of the innings.
Australia’s tenacious victory guaranteed them a spot in the ICC World Test Championship final at The Oval in June. If India wins the fourth Test in Ahmedabad, they will be guaranteed a spot in the championship game.
Head stated, “I just tried to take it one step at a time.
“We have observed during the series that anything can happen depending on the quality of the bowling and the wickets.
We simply tried to play it one ball at a time. Simply put, it’s good to give back.
With the help of spinner Matthew Kuhnemann’s five wickets, Australia bowled out India for 109 on the first day of a low-scoring and frantic match.
Australia’s response saw a promising start before they were out for 197 before lunch on day two, losing their final six wickets for just 11 runs.
India was bowled out for 163 in their second innings thanks to Nathan Lyon’s eight wickets, setting a winning target of 76.
Khawaja and labuschagne’s Partnership Guides Australia to Victory Against India in Test Match
Khawaja, the star of the first innings, was dismissed on the second delivery of the day, giving Australia the worst possible start.
For a duck, the first batter edged Ravichandran Ashwin to the wicketkeeper Srikar Bharat.
Khawaja was shocked because he had been so confident in the first innings. He reviewed the judgement, but it was upheld, much to the delight of the boisterous Indore crowd.
The world’s best Test batsman, Gum-chewing Labuschagne, was caught at slip by Ashwin in the sixth over, according to Virat Kohli, but India’s review was unsuccessful.
Labuschagne and Head adjusted their strategy after 45 minutes.
After the chains came off, Head launched Ashwin for a six over mid-on and then blasted Ravindra Jadeja for a four in the following over.
To help Australia achieve a rare victory in India, Labuschagne also joined the action, striking Jadeja for a four and dismissing a short Ashwin delivery on a half-volley for four more runs.
Further boundaries were swiftly scored, the deficit was quickly closed, the Australian locker room was calmed, and the home audience was quieted.
India, which has won its last 15 home series, has only lost a game at home three times in the past ten years.
