From Ram Setu to Selfiee, Akshay Kumar’s films have all failed, one after the other.
Selfiee, Akshay Kumar’s most recent film, had his weakest debut in more over ten years the flim is considered as disaster on box office. Due to the actor’s record of failures, criticism of his film selection is on the rise.
The movie “Selfiee,” which also stars Emraan Hashmi, Nushratt Bharuccha, and Diana Penty and was made by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, had a dismal opening weekend gross of Rs 2.55 crore.
With the lowest first-day revenue — less than the Rs 6 crore made by Kartik Aryan’s “Shehzada” on its opening day last week — “Selfiee” becomes Kumar’s fifth straight box office failure.
Taran Adarsh, a trade analyst, described “Selfiee’s” opening day performance as a “disaster” with “shockingly low numbers”.
Adarsh also provided data on the movie’s opening weekend from various multiplexes.
“#Selfie at national chains… Day 1 in business…
64 lacs #PVR #INOX: 43,000 23 lacs for #Cinepolis 1.30 cr Nett BOC in total. SHOCKINGLY LOW NUMBERS,” Adarsh tweeted, contrasting the film’s opening day sales with those of this year’s releases of “Pathaan” by Shah Rukh Khan and “Shehzada” by Kartik Aryan. “National chains only – Day 1 business… 2023 releases… Pathaan: $27.08 billion 2.92 cr Nett BOC for #Shehzada, said Adarsh.
The movie had a first-day Hindi occupancy rate of overall 9.95%, according to the Sacnilk website.
Akshay Interview
Interestingly, none of Kumar’s 2022 movies, including “Ram Setu,” “Raksha Bandhan,” “Samrat Prithviraj,” and “Bachchhan Paandey,” have performed well financially; instead, their first-day revenues have ranged from more over Rs 8 crore (for Raksha Bandhan) to 15 crore (Ram Setu).
In an interview with Aaj Tak’s “Seedhi Baat” prior to the film’s release, Akshay Kumar discussed his string of failures as well as the reasons why Bollywood movies haven’t been performing well lately.
“That has occurred to me before, not for the first time. There have been instances where all 16 of my films failed consecutively. And there have also been instances where eight to nine of my films failed. One is to blame for this, according to Kumar.
