;ISLAMABAD: Imran Khan, the former prime minister, stated on Sunday that he has a personal disagreement with General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa, the former commander of the army, but he will not take any action against Gen. Bajwa if he wins reelection.
He said this while speaking with a group from the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) at his Lahore home in Zaman Park.
Imran claimed that General Asim Munir, the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), had declared his intention to remain impartial. The biggest test of his neutrality, he noted, will be conducting elections within three months after the dissolution of parliament.
He claimed that it became clear that a plot to overthrow the PTI administration had been formed when Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed was fired from his position as DG ISI. I warned Gen; Bajwa that no one will be able to run the country’s economy. If the plan to overthrow the government is successful, he continued.
The former prime minister claimed that he questioned Shehbaz’s candidacy for the position of prime minister. As we already know that he was implicated in corruption cases of Rs. 16 billion. But, he said, he later learned that General (retired) Bajwa had no problem with corruption.
“Gen Bajwa once opined that Aleem Khan ought to be appointed chief minister of Punjab. He said, “I learned about his unlawful possession, therefore I asked how he could become chief minister.
According to Imran,
Pakistan’s economy would have fared much better if a coronavirus outbreak and China’s two-year blockade hadn’t occurred.
Economy of the country is on a decline and income of people is low. So how can loans be returned in this situation, he questioned. A country cannot prosper if there is no rule of law, he added.
“I told Gen Bajwa that if we catch 10 to 12 top corrupt people. Everything will get back on the right track.”
Imran said the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) was formed in 1999 but it should be questioned whether corruption increased or decreased since then. “We had a decent relation with Gen Bajwa but I don t know what happened later,” he said.
Talking about the Toshakhana case, the PTI chief said that if there was corruption during his tenure, then the opponents would have raised it rather than highlighting the Toshakhana issue only.
This is not a museum, Toshakhana. He claimed that if I hadn’t purchased the watch. He said someone else would have done so at an auction. Noting that Asif Ali Zardari and Nawaz Sharif have purchased pricey vehicles from the Toshakhana.
The former prime minister added that a weak government is unable of achieving outcomes, thus he will not form one this time.
