Court issues arrest warrants for Imran: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) requested an arrest warrant for the PTI Chairman. Judge Muhammad Bashir of the Accountability Court gave the Jail Superintendent instructions on what steps to take in order to carry out the warrants’ execution.
The following appeared in court: Prosecutor Irfan Bhola, Deputy Prosecutor General NAB Sardar Muzaffar Abbasi, and investigation officers Mohsin, Waqar-ul-Hassan, and Mian Umar Nadeem.
The prosecutor responded to the court’s question regarding the High Court’s position by saying that the case is still pending and that the High Court has not issued a standing or suspension order. The NAB prosecutor instructed the Jail Superintendent to take the necessary actions and requested the issuance of warrants.
The judge questioned whether issuing warrants would make summoning the accused unnecessary. The prosecution clarified that they would physically remand the accused to the court after arresting them in accordance with the warrant.
The prosecutor stressed that law permits only 24 hours of imprisonment and highlighted that if additional time is necessary, a request will be made to the court. They underlined the necessity of executing the warrant before taking any further action, pointing out that other accused parties have gone through comparable processes in the past.
The court brought up Official Secrets Act and inquired about the instructions given to the Jail Superintendent. The prosecutor provided assurance that the execution of warrant could proceed with approval.
The prosecutor, when questioned about the investigators, acknowledged the involvement of two different people. In response to court’s inquiry about the reason for the arrest, she stated that further investigation and inquiry were necessary.
The Accountability Court instructed the Superintendent of Adiala Jail to conduct legal actions for enforcement of the arrest warrants according to the law.
