Chaudhry Muhammad Ashraf, a lawmaker for the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz PML-N MNA, was detained on Tuesday in a land grabbing case by the Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE), according to Express News.
On the platform of the ruling PML-N, Chaudhary Muhammad Ashraf was elected as a Member of the National Assembly (MNA) for NA-161 (Sahiwal-II).
The ACE has charged the congressman with conspiring with the patwari (revenue officer), Muhammad Salim, to fraudulently occupy more than 157 acres of public property.
After the accusations against MNA Ashraf were proven true, according to ACE, the provincial anti-corruption department imprisoned him.
Sources claim that the accused assigned his agricultural land in the name of another accused named Sharif Ahmed Hashmi in order to conceal his ownership of the property.
Dost Muhammad Mazari, the former deputy speaker of the Punjab Assembly, was detained by the ACE earlier this month on suspicion of stealing public property.
The regional politician was reportedly detained while visiting his grandfather in the hospital, according to his cousin Shahab Mazari, who reportedly confirmed the detention.
Express News claims that Mazari was called by ACE on October 11 for the same charges, but he did not show up.
The assistant commissioner for Rujhan reported that Mazari stole thousands of acres of land.
